Favorite Brunch Cocktail & The History Behind The Bloody Mary

The Bloody Mary is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice, and other spices and flavorings Coined as the hangover cure.

The drink that would come to be known as 'Bloody Mary' was first mixed by Fernand Petiot an American bartender in Paris back when he added equal parts of tomato juice and vodka. The patron said it reminded him of Bucket of Blood Club in Chicago, and a girl he knew there named Mary.

In 1934 the drink was introduced in New York and referred to as "The Red Snapper." at King Cole Bar at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. Eventually, the drink got spiced up with Worcestershire and lemon juice. The classic "hangover cure" the bloody mary was invented.
